Years of economic collapse have driven millions from the country, and in 2026 a political upheaval and earthquakes worsened the situation.
Open on the interactive globeAccording to ACAPS, 7.9 million people inside the country need humanitarian assistance, and another 7.9 million Venezuelans live abroad as refugees and migrants. On 3 January 2026 US forces struck military targets in Caracas and detained President Nicolás Maduro, and Vice President Delcy Rodríguez took over executive authority. On 24 June 2026 two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 killed about 4,700 people in the north of the country.
