Ebola epidemic in eastern DRC
The epidemic, declared on 15 May 2026, is spreading through conflict-affected provinces where violence and damaged roads hamper the response.
Open on the interactive globeBy 12 September 2026 about 7,200 cases and nearly 3,500 deaths had been reported in 62 health zones across seven provinces, from Ituri to Sud-Ubangi, making it the deadliest Ebola outbreak in the DRC's history. In North Kivu, especially Butembo and Katwa, cases are doubling every week. The 1.3 billion US dollar response plan was 49 percent funded.
