Energy and humanitarian crisis in Cuba
After oil shipments from Venezuela and Mexico were halted in early 2026, and following damage from Hurricane Melissa (October 2025), Cuba faces nationwide shortages of power, fuel, food and medicine.

In May 2026 OCHA and WHO reported more than 100,000 patients awaiting surgery, including 11,000 children, and power cuts of up to 20 hours a day. On 18 September 2026 the eighth nationwide blackout of the year affected more than 9 million people.
