Humanitarian crisis in Syria

After 14 years of war Syria is entering a transition, but destruction, poverty and millions of displaced people sustain one of the largest humanitarian crises.

In 2026, 15.6 million people need humanitarian assistance and 7.4 million remain internally displaced. About 90 percent of Syrians live in poverty, and in September 2026 protests over fuel prices pushed up food prices. Since March 2026 the Middle East war has sent hundreds of thousands of people fleeing Lebanon into Syria.
