Famine in Darfur and Kordofan
Sieges of towns and cut supply lines in Darfur and Kordofan led to confirmed famine in El Fasher and Kadugli.
Open on the interactive globeThe IPC analysis of November 2025 confirmed famine conditions (Phase 5) in El Fasher in North Darfur and in Kadugli in South Kordofan, and classified 20 more areas as at risk of famine. For February to May 2026 it projected 19.1 million people in acute food insecurity (Phase 3 or above). According to ACAPS, in September 2026 more than 4.9 million people were in Emergency (Phase 4).
