Conflict in north-east Nigeria

Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states have for more than 15 years faced attacks by armed groups that destroy infrastructure, trade and farming.

In Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states 5.9 million people need assistance and 4.8 million face Crisis or worse food insecurity. A cholera outbreak that began in May 2026 had by mid-August reached more than 57,000 suspected cases and 357 deaths in 35 states, with Borno particularly affected. Humanitarian access is limited by attacks, damaged roads and movement restrictions.
