Insurgency in Cabo Delgado

The insurgency in Cabo Delgado province, ongoing since 2017, is spreading into neighbouring Niassa and Nampula provinces.

Nearly 600,000 people have been displaced since the insurgency began, including 27,000 more in May and June 2026. In 2026 the first attack in Niassa province since May 2025 was recorded, in Marrupa. Rainy-season floods affecting more than one million people and a cholera outbreak have deepened the crisis.
