Armed gangs control large parts of Port-au-Prince and are expanding into Artibonite, Kenscoff and the south of the country.

Between April and June 2026, 1,408 people were killed and 656 injured, and an August attack in Kenscoff killed at least 47 people. The number of internally displaced people rose to about 1.5 million by June 2026, and about 6 million people, half the population, need assistance. The 2026 humanitarian plan was 19 percent funded in April.
