Sudanese refugees in Egypt

Egypt has received the largest number of refugees from the war in Sudan, which began in April 2023; most live in cities, mainly Cairo.

According to UNHCR, at the end of August 2026 Egypt had 1,096,185 registered refugees and asylum seekers, including 851,427 from Sudan and 88,962 from Syria. WFP supports more than 902,000 registered refugees with monthly cash assistance and training. UNHCR continues to monitor new arrivals from Sudan (updates from September 2026).
