Dengue outbreak in Bangladesh

Since late August 2026 the monsoon has driven a sharp rise in dengue cases in all eight divisions of Bangladesh; Dhaka division accounts for about 40 percent of cases.

By mid-September 2026 51,837 cases and 149 deaths had been confirmed; in August alone 20,536 people were hospitalised, more than twice July's figure. The outbreak coincides with measles and is straining hospitals. The IFRC released a DREF for 300,000 people, and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is supplying NS1 test kits and running mosquito control campaigns.
