Amur leopard on the Russia-China border
The Amur leopard survives only in the forests of southwest Primorsky Krai and adjacent parts of China, where it fell to a few dozen animals in the 20th century.
Open on the interactive globeAccording to WCS the population in Russia numbered about 130 in 2025, while the whole population was estimated at 84 in 2014-2015. Density in Land of the Leopard National Park rose from 0.65 to 1.86 per 100 square kilometres between 2015 and 2024, supported by anti-poaching patrols and the recovery of sika deer. Low genetic diversity and habitat connectivity with China remain challenges.
