Recovery after the February 2023 earthquakes in southern Türkiye

The earthquakes of 6 February 2023 destroyed towns in 11 provinces of southern Türkiye; Hatay province and its capital Antakya were hit hardest.

Türkiye reports 53,537 deaths. In February 2026, three years after the disaster, about 360,000 people were still living in 126,583 containers across 11 provinces, including about 157,000 in 153 container cities in Hatay, followed by Malatya, Kahramanmaraş and Adıyaman. The 2026 budget sets aside 653 billion lira for reconstruction and risk reduction. NGOs provide psychosocial support and child protection, including in Antakya and Kırıkhan.
