Hurricane Polo in Mexico

Hurricane Polo formed on 20 September 2026 in the Pacific south of Mexico and, according to GDACS, reached Category 5 with winds of up to 287 km/h before moving north along the country's western coast.

According to the NHC, Polo made landfall at 23:00 local time on 28 September just south of Las Barrancas in Baja California Sur as a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 175 km/h, and again at about 11:00 on 29 September a little east of Guaymas in Sonora as a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 120 km/h. On the evening of 29 September it weakened over land into a remnant low. GDACS estimates that about 220,000 people were exposed to at least Category 1 hurricane-force winds. No casualty or damage figures have yet been confirmed by official sources.
