Aftermath of the Kamchatka earthquake and aftershock sequence

On 30 July 2025 a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off Kamchatka, the strongest in the region since 1952; the strongest aftershock, of magnitude 7.8, followed on 19 September 2025, and felt tremors continue in 2026.

A state of emergency was declared in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and lifted on 10 February 2026. In February 2026 the Ministry of Construction approved the resettlement of residents of 12 damaged buildings in the city, with 4.8 billion roubles allocated, and in May 2026 the government granted almost 900 million roubles more for housing reconstruction.
