Earthquake in southern Mindanao

On 8 June 2026 a magnitude 7.8 earthquake off Sarangani province produced intensity VII shaking in General Santos and a small tsunami.

According to a compilation of Philippine government data, at least 81 people were killed and more than 346,000 people were affected; 113,000 homes were damaged, more than 18,000 of them destroyed. General Santos, Glan and Malapatan were the worst hit. The IFRC released DREF funding for 40,000 people.
