Earthquake on Flores island

On 15 August 2026 (local time) a shallow magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the north coast of Flores exposed about 1.7 million residents of East Nusa Tenggara to strong shaking.

USGS reports at least 111 people killed and 1,678 injured, 27,414 homes destroyed and 68,153 damaged, as well as landslides. According to a compilation based on Indonesia's BNPB data, more than 188,000 people left their homes, most of them in Manggarai regency. The IFRC released DREF funding for 20,000 people.
