Earthquake in western Colombia

On 10 August 2026 a magnitude 7.4 earthquake centred near San José del Palmar (Chocó) at a depth of about 100 km caused strong shaking in Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Risaralda and Caldas.

USGS reports at least 331 people killed, more than 4,600 injured and 240 missing, with 31,540 homes destroyed and 178,555 damaged. Most deaths were recorded in Valle del Cauca, including Cali. The IFRC runs a USD 10 million emergency appeal and plans recovery work over 24 months.
